Justo Rey Returns to His Roots
Justo Rey has returned to his roots in the publishing business by accepting the role of president of The Flyer in Miami, Fla.

Rey started his career with The Flyer in Miami with Dick Mandt who founded the publication. Last month it was announced that Mandt led a team that purchased TheFlyer.com in Tampa and Miami from Harte-Hanks Shoppers, who purchased the publications from Mandt.

To accept the position, Rey resigned as president of Forum Publishing Group in Southeast Florida, which publishes 28 community newspapers with a circulation of over 900,000. Prior to his appointment as president, he served as vice president of sales and marketing for the Forum group.

Before Rey started his advertising career with The Flyer in Miami, he worked for a retail chain. He became acquainted with The Flyer by placing display advertising with it. He took an interest in advertising and was later employed by The Flyer.

In 1988 he was employed with Springpress, a national book publishing company. He later was employed with the South Florida Newspaper Network, which is now the Forum Publishing Group.

Rey has been a longtime supporter of the free paper associations. He is the current president of the Community Papers of Florida (CPF). He was appointed to the CPF board in 2004 and has served on numerous committees for the association, as well as its secretary and vice president.

A native of Cuba, Rey moved to the United States when he was 14 years old. He attended Barry University in Miami Shores. He enjoys spending time with his three children, playing golf and is an avid sports fan.

Under the new ownership, the name of TheFlyer.com has been changed to The Flyer. Mandt, in naming his team, announced Rey will be the president of The Flyer in Miami, Jim Kendall will be the president of The Flyer in Tampa, and Steve McKinnon will be the president of The Flyer Printing.
