Florida Mariner Under New Ownership

The assets of the Florida Mariner Magazine in North Port, Fla., have been purchased by Mariner Publications, LLC.

Mariner Publications, LLC recently acquired the 27-year-old Florida Mariner from Journal Community Publishing Group, Inc., which is a division of Journal Communications, Inc., a Milwaukee-based, publicly-traded diversified media company.

Journal Communications acquired the Florida Mariner in June 1995 from owners Thomas Kahler and Kenneth Kephart. Kahler and Kephart founded the Florida Mariner, then known as the Gulf Mariner, in 1984.

The boating publication grew to become a statewide publication that is now produced biweekly. The Florida Mariner is available at hundreds of locations, including every Florida West Marine and Boat U.S. store. With over 3,000 online subscribers, the magazine can also be viewed at www.floridamariner.com. The Florida Mariner continues to participate in several Florida boat shows and events throughout the year.

Michael and Cristina Jones, founders of Mariner Publications, LLC, have been a part of the Florida Mariner for over 17 years. The husband and wife team of skilled graphic designers will also remain "hands on" with the production of the publication as Editor and Publisher.

The Florida Mariner has won several awards with AFCP over the years, including placing first in the Outstanding Publication - Rack Distribution category in 2010, plus consecutively in 2004, 2005 & 2006, with a total of seven wins in this category to date.

Entering the CPF Awards for Excellence competition for the first time this year, the Florida Mariner won 11 awards, including second place in the Best Creative Content category.
